Best way for an SME to overtake a competitor in AI answers?

KMO Signal Ops is the measurement for companies sold on expertise: ceeme asks the questions a buyer or a searching business owner puts to an AI assistant, counts separately how often you get named, cited and chosen against the names that land beside you, and shows for each gap which source carried it.

Measure your own company → Rather talk it through first

Who usually buys this, and where do they get stuck?

The owner together with a single marketing lead, or an estate agent or installer who wins their own enquiries. What they share is not the sector but the moment: they see a competitor turn up in answers they are absent from, and they do not know why.

WhoWho decidesWhat keeps them up at night

Property, construction and installationThe owner or the agent themselvesWinning trust on an expensive purchase, with a competitor on every corner

Why does an AI pick one supplier over another?

Four things, and they weigh differently than for a local business. Reviews count for less, standing for more, and whether your site carries the proof behind your claim counts most. An engine choosing between two suppliers picks the one it can establish something about.

DriverWhat ceeme measures underneathWhat stays dark without a connection
Share of voiceyour share of the same answers as your competitorWho you stand against is counted. Tracking a named competitor needs a deeper scan.
Source authoritythe standing of the sources that name youWhich sources name you and how much they weigh, we see. Writing to them is human work.
Channel readinesswhether your profiles are complete and aliveMeasuring always works. Putting something on that channel needs a ProOps connector.
Conversion readinesswhere a visitor drops out before asking anythingWithout GA4, GSC or CRM we see whether the path to the action holds up, not whether anyone walked it.
Local trustGBP, reviews and whether your details match everywhereWe read your Google profile. Changing anything in it needs a GBP connection.
Proof densityhow much proof sits on your own siteNothing. This counts the proof on your own site, and that is public.
Design trustwhether your site earns trust from someone who hesitatesWe see what is wrong on your site. Fixing it goes through a CMS connection.
Reputation riskmisquotes, sliding reviews and where they come fromReviews and social are read live. Print and paywalled media are not in there.

Where does the picture an AI has of my company come from?

For an SME the centre of gravity shifts to places you do not control: trade registers, industry media, comparison guides and company databases. Your own site does count, but mostly as confirmation of something that already sits elsewhere. That is why a rewritten homepage alone is rarely enough.

Can you promise I will show up in ChatGPT?

No. We do not promise a place in an answer, because that is not ours to promise — the engine decides, and the engine changes. What we do is measure where you stand, point out what makes the difference, and ask the same questions again after the fix. If nothing moves, that is written down too.

How much work is this for me if I have no marketing department?

An hour for the first measurement, and after that as little as you want. The questions come from your market rather than from your head, so you do not need to supply a keyword list. What does help is Search Console access: then the terms people already type to reach you weigh more than our heuristic.

Frequently asked questions

We sell to a handful of large customers. Does this even apply?

Often more than with a broad audience, for a counterintuitive reason. With a short candidate list every drop-out weighs heavily, and the first cut is increasingly made by someone asking an AI who qualifies. You lose not at the table but before it, and that is exactly the moment you never see.

We just built a new website. Is that not enough?

It is half. A new site can fix the technical side and the structure, and those two together weigh nearly half your readiness. What a site cannot fix is that a trade register does not know you yet, or that a comparison guide names your competitor and not you. That is exactly why each finding in the measurement carries an address rather than a number.

Do we also see if our competitor slips?

You see who lands in the same answers and how often, measurement after measurement. What you do not get today is tracking one named competitor over time with its own chart — that needs a deeper scan, and the table above says so. What does not exist, we do not name.
