In short
- What gets assessed
- Speed, structure, image-to-text balance, security. Everything a visitor notices without paying attention.
- What is not assessed
- Taste. No judgement about your colours, your typeface or your photography — no measurement covers that.
- Why it is here
- Because the same properties that give a human confidence give a machine something to hold on to. One page, two readers.
What does a visitor notice in the first seconds?
Whether something appears quickly, whether there is structure in it, and whether the connection is secured. None of the three is consciously noticed and all three decide whether someone stays. That is why a slow page with excellent content loses to a fast one with less.
Why is there a design score on a site about AI visibility?
Because they are the same properties. A page that loads fast gets fetched in full; a page with headings yields passages; a page with too much image and too little text gives a machine nothing to cut out. What you do for a visitor, you do for both.
That is also the most pleasant part of this craft: most of the changes you make for an AI also make your site nicer for a human. The exceptions are the tricks, and those do not work anyway.
Why is there no judgement about my house style?
Because that is not a measurement but an opinion, and an opinion with a number on it is still an opinion. We measure what can be counted; about your colours a good designer has more sensible things to say than a score.
| What this tool does | What it does not do |
|---|---|
| Assesses what is measurable about your page's construction | Says nothing about your house style, your colours or your photography |
| Gives a verdict per point in words | Does not compare you with a sector average — none exists in a usable form |
| Looks at one page, the address you give | Does not crawl your site — a good home page says little about the rest |
Frequently asked questions
Does this count towards my AI visibility?
Partly, and not directly. Speed and structure count because they decide whether you get read in full; the rest mainly touches what a visitor does after an assistant sent them. That second part is not visibility, but it is the reason visibility pays off.
I get a low score on one point. How bad is that?
Look at which point it is, not at the figure. A weak score on security is an afternoon's work and a big difference; a weak score on the image-to-text balance can be a deliberate choice for a page meant to show. The figure summarises, the rows underneath say what to do.
